    Sciatica Care in Tallahassee, FL

Sharp, shooting pain down the back of the leg — often with burning or numbness — may indicate sciatic nerve irritation. Our team evaluates whether it stems from disc involvement, SI joint dysfunction, or piriformis-related compression, and builds a plan designed to support relief.

How we approach this at University Physical Medicine

    1

Neurological exam to localize where the nerve is being irritated — disc, foramen, SI joint, or piriformis.

    2

Targeted chiropractic work and soft-tissue therapy on the involved segments and surrounding muscles.

    3

Spinal decompression when the case suggests disc involvement.

    4

Specific rehabilitative exercises to restore mechanics and reduce recurrence.

Individual results may vary. Our providers will recommend a plan based on your evaluation.

    Questions patients ask about this

How long does sciatica usually take to settle?

Most cases improve over a series of visits across several weeks. Disc-driven sciatica generally takes longer than muscle/joint-driven sciatica. Your provider will set realistic expectations after the exam.

Do I need an MRI first?

Not always. Most cases can start with a careful clinical exam. We order imaging if findings suggest it — not by default.
